Hair Straightening Tips For You!

Most women with curly or wavy hair have at some point coveted straight hair. If you are one of them and wish to try this, you should know that there are several great options these days and none of them involves a clothes iron. New methods, using state of the art technology, are safer and less harmful to your hair. You can opt for the chemical process to permanently straighten your hair and achieve a smooth, shiny, straight mane for anywhere from six to nine months. Or you can temporarily sport a straight hairstyle for special occasions. You may want to try this before you commit to a permanent change.

If you have the time and patience you can just use a good hair dryer and styling brush to blow dry your hair straight or you can try a straightening irons. There are several different types of straighteners available, from the older, most commonly used chrome-plated metal irons to gold-plated ones and of course the newest technology, ceramic. If you are short on cash try the regular metal or the gold-plated ones; gold is easier on your hair. If you can afford to splurge, purchase a ceramic straightening iron and your hair will thank you. The ceramic heats up more evenly and is gentler to your hair by helping preserve the natural moisture. It also results in shinier, smoother, healthier looking hair as it tends to glide through better. Ceramic is known to eliminate frizz and minimize static.

Things to look for in a straightening iron:

- Does it have adjustable and several heat settings? You will have to experiment with it to find your ideal temperature. Although a high heat setting will get hair straighter quicker, try to follow the general rule of using lower settings for fine hair and higher setting for thick or coarse hair

- Look for solid ceramic plates instead of a ceramic coating as the former will last much longer.

- How heavy is it? A lightweight one will be easier on your arms and make you task much more bearable.

- Does it have a swivel power cord? This feature can make your task go much quicker.

- There are now several cordless models on the market. If you are going to use it for quick touch ups or for travel; this option is great.

- Look for a straightening iron with a protective heat resistant case so when you are done you can move on without worrying about it cooling down.

- Get a smaller plate iron for short hair and a wider one for longer hair.

Tips

- Make sure your hair is totally dry before using a heated iron. Hair is most fragile and prone to breakage when it is wet and the straightening iron on damp hair will open the cuticle and damage the cortex. If possible, allow your hair to dry naturally instead of blow drying as this will reduce the amount of heat your hair has to endure at one time.

- Use a product like serum or protein treatment before straightening - specially on the ends. This will further help protect your hair and leave it shinier.

- If you are looking for pin straight hair, part hair into small sections and do a couple of passes with the iron on each section.

- If you are in a rush or are looking for just a smooth, polished finish; straighten just the top layer of your hair. No one will see the bottom layers anyway.

15 natural ways to prevent the breast cancer

Ten years ago, experts believe that breast cancer is a disease that truly can not be prevented. Now, researchers have a lot to know how to prevent it, at least reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Actually there are 17 ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer, 2 of which are prevention of medical terms and the remainder represents a natural therapy.

Prevention through medical are:

1. Drugs to prevent breast cancer.

Women with high risk, namely the survival / survivor of breast cancer or who at least have blood ties with people with cancer (mother or sister), can get Tamoxifen therapy, which works by blocking the effects of estrogen trigger tumor.

2. Mastectomy before the cancer attack.

For women from families with high genetic risk, there is a mastectomy for breast cancer prevention. It is a radical approach, but most succeed. Mastectomy breast tissue is lifted, but not entirely, so the likelihood of cancer is still there.

While prevention of naturally include:

1. Exercise regularly.

Research shows that in line with increased activity, the risk of breast cancer will be reduced. Exercise will lower the levels of estrogen produced by the body, thereby reducing the risk of breast cancer.

2. Reduce fat.

You have often heard the clash of opinion about the relationship between breast cancer with fatty foods. Some research indicates that low-fat diet help prevent breast cancer. Other research has shown that there is no relationship between fat and breast cancer .. Recent research states that more important is the type of fat rather than total fat consumed.

This type of fat that trigger breast cancer is the saturated fat in meat, butter, foods that contain full-cream milk (whole-milk dairy foods) and fatty acids in margarine.

While the types of fat that helps prevent breast cancer is unsaturated fat in olive oil and omega-3 fatty acids in salmon and other cold water fish.

Saturated fats in meat and dairy products and fatty acids in margarine increase estrogen levels in the blood, whereas unsaturated fats in olive oil and omega-3 fatty acids in fish does not cause an increase in estrogen levels in the blood.

3. If you eat meat, do not be cooked too ripe.

Regardless of the saturated fats found in meat, the way you cook the meat will affect the risk of breast cancer. Meats are cooked / baked produce carcinogenic compounds (amino heterocyclic). The longer cooked, the more the compound is formed. Amino heterocyclic most numerous in the outer layer of grilled meat (skin) charred and black.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables.

More and more fruits and vegetables you eat, the less risk for all cancers, including breast cancer.
Foods from plants containing a high anti-oxidant, including vitamin A, C, E and the mineral selenium, which may prevent cell damage that could be causing cancer. National Cancer Institute (NCI) recommends to consume fruits and vegetables at least 5 (five) times a day. But to avoid fruits and vegetables that contain lots of fat, like french fries or pie with banana cream.

5. Eat anti-oxidant supplements.

Supplements can not replace fruits and vegetables, but an anti-oxidant formula can be a food additive that can prevent breast cancer.

6. Eat more fiber.

In addition to functioning as anti-oxidants, fruit and vegetables also contain lots of fiber. Fibrous foods will bind estrogen in the digestive tract, so that levels in the blood is reduced.

7. Eat more tofu and soy-containing foods.

Foods derived from soy contains plant estrogens (fito-estrogens). As with tamoxifen, this compound similar to estrogen the body, but weaker. Fito-estrogen receptor bound to the same cells with the estrogen the body, tied it out of breast cells, thereby reducing the effects of breast cancer triggers.
Besides blocking the body’s estrogen to reach receptor cells, soy-containing foods also accelerate spending from the body’s estrogen.

8. Eat more beans.

In addition to the soybean, fito-estrogens are also present in other types of nuts.

9. Avoid alcohol.

Many studies have shown that the more alcohol consumed, the risk of breast cancer is increasing because alcohol increases estrogen levels in the blood.

10. Watch your weight.

Every pound of weight gain after age 18 years will increase the risk of breast cancer. This is because in line with increasing body fat, the levels of estrogen as hormone triggers breast cancer in bloodwill increase too.

11. Avoid Xeno-estrogens.

Xeno-estrogen means estrogen that comes from outside the body.
Women taking estrogen from outside the body, especially that derived from hormone residues in meat contained estrogenic and estrogenic pesticide residues. Allegedly Xeno-estrogens can improve blood estrogen levels thereby increasing the risk of breast cancer.
The best way to avoid the Xeno-estrogen is to reduce consumption of meat, poultry (chicken, duck) and dairy products (whole-milk dairy products).
But you do not have to worry about eating lots of fruit and vegetables, because the effect of anti-oxidants and fiber content more than the effects of pesticide residues.

12. Bask under the sun.

The increasing incidence of skin cancer (malignant melanoma) make us afraid of sunlight. But a little sunlight can help prevent breast cancer, because at the time of the sun on the skin, the body makes vitamin D. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium breast tissue, thereby reducing the risk of breast cancer. In order to get sunlight for 20 minutes / day, are encouraged to walk under the sun in the afternoon. But if you want to get calcium or vitamin D is from sunshine, you can try to consume food supplements.

13. Do not smoke
.
Smoking increases the risk of breast cancer.

14. Breastfeeding / breast feed your child

For reasons that are unclear, feeding associated with reduced risk of breast cancer before menopause.

15. Consider again before using hormone replacement therapy (HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy).

There are several good reasons to do HRT after menopause, which is to reduce the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s disease. However, HRT increases the risk of breast cancer. Talk with your doctor and consider the risks that may arise, as most women suffer a higher risk for heart disease than breast cancer.
Finally, one more thing that can affect the risk of breast cancer is stressful.
Medical literature states that stress can boost the risk of breast cancer. But research on this is still controversial. But it never hurts to start a way to overcome stress in your life through meditation, yoga, tai chi, gardening or other leisure activities.

Diet and Exercise Tips

Excessive body weight contributes to snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, in addition to being a major influence on general health and well-being. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs in about 50-60 percent of those who are obese.

A recent report from the National Center for Health Statistics concludes that  35 percent of adults exercise regularly (more than 6 of 10 don’t), and nearly four in 10 aren’t physically active. Lack of exercise can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The CDC estimates that “about 112,000 deaths are associated with obesity each year in the United States.” However, this estimate is likely to change in the future as more data become available.

Proper diet and exercise are the mainstays for a healthy lifestyle, although many Americans turn to costly fad diets and exercise programs that fail to provide weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. The basic tenets to gradual weight loss and good health include developing healthy eating habits and increasing daily physical activity.
Self-Help Guidelines for Healthy Activity:
• Consult a physician – men over age 40; women over 50; people with (or at risk for) chronic health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.

• Start out slowly and build up activity gradually over a period of months. This will help avoid soreness and injury.

• Try to accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate-intensity cardiovascular activity each day. You can do all 30 minutes together or through short bouts of intermittent activity (e.g., 10 minutes at a time).

• Add strength-developing exercises at least twice per week.

• Incorporate physical activity into your day (walk to the office or store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk or jog at lunch time, etc.)

• Make leisure time active – garden, walk, ride a bike with family and friends, participate in an exercise class, join in a sports activity.

• Select activities you enjoy, find satisfying, and that give you a feeling of accomplishment. Success leads to increased motivation to be physically active.

• Be sure your activities are compatible with your age and physical condition.

• Make it convenient to be active. Choose activities that are readily accessible (right outside your door) like gardening, walking, or jogging.

• Try “active commuting.” Cycle, walk, or in-line skate to work or to the store.

• Make your activity enjoyable – listen to music, include family and friends, etc.

For those who are already moderately active, increase the duration and intensity for additional benefits.

Weight Loss Tips:
Take in fewer calories than you expend. Few people understand this basic, simple concept.
• Eat smaller meals 3-5 times per day.

• Eat nutrient dense foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables.

• Eat slowly, and wait 10-15 minutes before taking second helpings.

• Don’t eliminate everything you like from your diet. Eat those things in small amounts (pizza, candy, cookies, etc.).

• Prepare healthy snacks that are easily available (cut carrots, apples, etc.).

• Avoid buffets.

• Drink plenty of water, especially immediately before meals.
